A Few Suggestions for Improving Dream Recall

*State your intention- verbally and in writing- to REMEMBER more of your dreams!

*Keep a dream journal, pen and lamp by your bedside. Write or draw in your journal upon waking whatever is present- even the vaguest impression or lyrics of a song in your head, whether it is from a dream or not.

*Refrain from using an alarm to wake up and from immediately thinking about what you have to do that day. Allow yourself to wake up naturally and SLOWLY. LINGER in the bodily position you’ve been sleeping in and ask yourself, “Where was I? Who was I with? What was I doing?” Give it some time, try to slip back into the feeling and see if you are able to remember something. From there, you may be able to work your way backwards, unravelling further memory of the dream.

*Be sure to get adequate sleep! Prioritize getting 8 or even 9 hours of sleep per night. Maybe you can cut out scrolling on social media or watching Netflix or something that isn’t your best use of time.

*Drink water before bed, and when you go to use the restroom in the night, ask yourself, “What was I just dreaming?” Sip more water before returning to bed.
